Pelican is a large coastal water bird nest in large colonies and breeds in southern Asia and across India. The Spot billed pelican or grey pelican species in found to breed only in peninsular India and have become popular tourist attractions in Andhra Pradesh such as Kokrebellur, Koothankulam and Uppalapadu village.
* Kolleru Lake Bird Sanctuary
Kolleru Bird Sanctuary is located in state of Andhra Pradesh between Krishna and Godavari deltas. The lake is one of the largest freshwater lakes in India and listed under Ramsar Convention wetland of international importance.

Nelapattu Bird Sanctuary is located near the village of Nelapattu in Andhra Pradesh and an important breeding site for spot billed pelicans in India along with migratory water birds such as pintail,darter and coot.

Chitrangudi Bird Sanctuary is part of Chitrangudi village located adjacent to Kanjirankulam Bird Sanctuary. The sanctuary offers home to breeding population of migratory waterbirds including spot-billed pelican,Asian openbill stork and several migratory heron species.

Pulicat Lake Bird Sanctuary at the border of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu state is most noted for the greater flamingos and spot billed pelicans. The lake sanctuary is second largest brackish water eco-system in India after Chilka lake and attracts hundreds of thousands of birds every year.
