# Mehrangarh Fort
Mehrangarh Fort located 125m above the city of Jodhpur in Mehrangarh. The fort was built by Rao Jodha in 1459, the fort is one of the biggest forts in India. The fort is enclosed in thick boundaries inside which many palaces are there which are famous for their intricate carvings and expansive courtyards. There is a total of seven gates in the fort, you can see the imprints of cannonballs fired on the second gate of the fort during wartime. Umaid Bhawan Palace is presently a hotel which is owned by Gaj Singh. The Palace was built by Maharaja Umaid Singh, grandfather of Gaj Singh in 1943. Umaid Bhawan Palace is one of the world’s largest private residence today, it has 347 rooms along with the principal residence of the former royal family of Jodhpur. The park has an interpretation gallery, plant nursery which includes 250 species of native plants, it has large numbers of lithophytes. Trees such as Rohido, Kumatiyo, Peeloo, Kharo Jaal and many more species of trees are there. Some small shops and cafes are also there inside the Park.
