In our day to day lives, how many of us stop to look at that frail man sitting at the entrance to the railway station who hasn't eaten all day? That kid, peeking in through our car window and selling cheap magazines and toy planes at the red light, how many of us give him a second thought? We don't show love and compassion to our own, to fellow human beings. Animals and birds, we don't even register.
We might feed our pets with the expensive specialized food and shower them love but who cares about the dogs on the streets who roam around hungry all day, fishing food from garbage?
But meet Sekar, a camera mechanic from Chennai who doesn't have pets of his own, but loves thousands of birds, just the same. Sekar, popularly know as the 'Birdman' in Royapettah area, feeds thousands of parrots everyday and has been doing so for a decade.
Sekar started out with putting rice and grains with water on his parapet wall for sparrows and squirrels. One day, around the time Tsunami devastated the subcontinent, two parrots came to Sekar's house in search for food.
Ten years later, around three thousand parrots now knock at Sekar's door for food and it is open for them, everyday without fail.
Sekar's amazing story is told in a short documentary. Sekar says that he might miss his meal, but his parrots never have to return with an empty stomach.
"It's all love," Sekar says in the video. Spreading love and kindness keeps Sekar happy and that's his message to everyone.
