Gurgaon is located in Haryana, in what is today known as the National Capital region. It is slowly becoming the major hub of all business centers in India. It is the city with the third highest per capita income in the country. The city itself is small and not populated with many tourist destinations. It mostly sports office buildings.
The entire area is considered to be the industrial or the IT sector. However this region still has its share of parks. Some very famous national parks are located in as well as very close to Gurgaon.
# Sultanpur National park
This park was earlier known as the Sultanpur Bird sanctuary. Later it was turned into a national park. All bird lovers must visit this park when in Gurgaon! It is home to a number of rare and beautiful species of birds. It also has other forms of wildlife living amidst its green surroundings.
The park is well maintained and beautiful. Some of the birds found here include – Common hoopoe, Paddyfield pipit, Purple sunbird, Little cormorant, Indian Cormorant, Common Spoonbill, Gray Francolin, Black francolin, Indian roller, White-throated kingfisher, Spot bill, Painted stork, Black-necked stork, White ibis, Black-headed ibis, Little egret and so on.
# Arrival Biodiversity Park
This park is situated within the Aravalli range and covers a vast expanse of 692 sq. km. this land was once rich in flora and fauna. But it was used for mining and that ruined its natural scenic beauty. Now that all its utility has been squeezed out of it, the Delhi Development Authority and University of Delhi have taken it upon themselves to restore it. The maintenance and restoration has been swift and effective but it will still take a lot more time tor repair the damages that the mining has caused.
# Tau Devi Lal Biodiversity park
The park was opened with the good intentions of providing the residents of Gurgaon with a beautiful place to take their kids to in the evening. Upon entering its field, the efforts put in are obvious from the beautiful sculptures and the entrance. However the poor maintenance has reduced the magnificence of the park considerably! This park in located in sector 52 of Gurgaon.
# Leisure Valley Park
This is a simple yet well kept park set in the city to offer a relief from the hustle bustle of the corporate world in which the city seems to be drowning. The park is well maintained and ideal for short morning or evening walks. It even has restaurants lining its borders that you can enjoy a meal in while taking in the beautiful scenery surrounding it.
# Okhla Bird Sanctuary
This is another excellent bird sanctuary located close to Delhi. Though not exactly inside Gurgaon, this bird park is very close to it. Covering an area of around 3.5 sq. km. the park features a large lake that sets a beautiful backdrop to the large variety of birds found here. Lying on the banks of the river, the lake has actually been created by damming the river. This park is a frequent haunt of all bird lovers visiting the area.
# Asola Bhatti Wildlife Sanctuary
This park is present in the Tughlakabad region of the NCR (National capital region). This area is probably the last patches of the forests that used to once populate the entire region of our capital city, Delhi. The scanty semi-arid forests of this sanctuary stretch up to the beginning of the Aravalli range in Rajasthan. Earlier this ridge used to sport dense forests that ran throughout the city. But deforestation caused due to development has reduced its coverage considerably.
