7 Amazing Offbeat Tourist Places In Spiti Valley

Spiti Valley is undoubtedly an offbeat destination, and there's no denying that. Often considered the younger sibling of the well-known Ladakh, Spiti has managed to preserve its mysterious charm as an untapped land. However, in today's era of constant exposure and intense research before any journey, much of this knowledge is easily accessible. This is completely fine—being well-prepared is always a good thing. Spots like Mane, Lhalung, and Komic are breathtakingly beautiful. Yet, when you're seeking seclusion, tranquility, and the challenge of exploring the rugged beauty of the Himalayan desert, the untouched and uncharted nature of a place is vital.

If you're not the conventional tourist type and prefer to discover hidden gems, claiming them as your own, then I totally get it. It's about connecting with life, nature, and something that truly belongs to you. Especially in remote areas like these, the best experiences come from veering off the beaten path. # Sopona Lake

A seasonal lake formed from nearby glacial melts, Sopona Lake has great potential—if it has water, of course! If you're visiting early in the summer, you might find it dry, but don’t worry—it’s the journey that matters. The trek to Sopona offers some of the most jaw-dropping views, especially from Manirang Pass, which is part of Himachal's highest mountain ranges. Keep an eye out for snow leopards as well! Summer is the ideal time to visit.

# Kanamo Peak

Kanamo deserves a spot on this list. It's one of the few trekkable peaks in the region, though it's no easy feat. But the effort is rewarded with awe-inspiring views of Ladakh, Spiti, Kullu, and Kinnaur from the summit. It's a tough climb, similar to the Stok Kangri challenge, but perfect for testing your endurance.

# Chicham Village

Chicham is a hidden gem that few have visited, located just across from the popular Kibber Village. It's not on the usual tourist route, which makes it even more special for those who venture there. You can reach Chicham either by a three-hour road journey or a thrilling 10-minute ride on a swinging cable car. The village, separated by a deep gorge with roaring waters below, is a perfect escape into the unknown. Fortunately, a bridge now connects Chicham to the rest of Spiti.

# La Darcha Grounds

Just a stone's throw from Chicham, La Darcha was once a meeting point for traders from the surrounding regions, where bartering was the norm—no money involved! Horses were traded for yaks, a practice still observed in Spiti. The La Darcha Fair celebrates this tradition, and visiting the grounds offers a glimpse into the region’s fascinating past.

# Pangmo

Though it may seem like a typical part of Spiti's landscape, Pangmo stands out for its welcoming vibe. Nestled between Losar and Kaza, it often goes unnoticed by travelers, but its raw beauty makes it worth a visit. It's a peaceful spot, offering a rare quietude in the region.

# Kakti Village

Kakti is the smallest village in Spiti, with just one house and five residents. It might sound too surreal to believe, but it’s real! Located 10 km from Kaza and equipped with modern amenities like cable TV and electricity, Kakti is one of the most unique places to visit in Spiti. Don’t forget to bring some essentials for the residents if you decide to stop by!

# Samudri Tapu

Last but certainly not least, Samudri Tapu is one of my favorite hidden spots in Spiti. While Chandratal is a famous destination, Samudri Tapu is a lesser-known, serene glacial lake that feeds into the Chandra River. The route can be tricky, and you may have to rappel across the river to reach it. I recommend hiring a local guide to navigate this beautiful, off-the-beaten-path gem.
