Cooking a whole roast chicken might sound daunting, but with an air fryer, it becomes an effortless and rewarding experience. This air-fryer roast chicken recipe ensures perfectly crispy skin and tender, juicy meat with minimal effort. It’s a healthier alternative to traditional roasting, using less oil while retaining all the flavor. Here’s how you can create this culinary masterpiece.
Ingredients for Air-Fryer Roast Chicken
1 whole chicken (3-4 lbs)
2 tbsp olive oil
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp paprika
1 tsp dried thyme or rosemary
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp salt (or to taste)
Juice of 1 lemon
Optional: Vegetables like carrots, potatoes, or onions for a complete meal
How to Make Air-Fryer Roast Chicken
Begin by preparing the chicken: pat it dry with paper towels to ensure the skin becomes crispy during cooking, and remove any giblets from the cavity if present. In a small bowl, mix olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, thyme, black pepper, and salt. Rub this mixture generously all over the chicken, making sure to get under the skin for maximum flavor. Squeeze lemon juice over the chicken, and place the squeezed lemon halves inside the cavity for added aroma. Preheat your air fryer to 360°F (180°C) for about 3-5 minutes. Once preheated, place the chicken breast-side down in the air fryer basket and cook for 30 minutes.
After this, carefully flip the chicken breast-side up using tongs and cook for an additional 20-30 minutes, depending on the chicken's size. To ensure it's cooked through, check that the internal temperature at the thickest part reads 165°F (75°C). When done, remove the chicken from the air fryer and let it rest for 10 minutes to allow the juices to redistribute, ensuring a juicy and flavorful result.
For a complete meal, toss vegetables like carrots or potatoes in olive oil, season them, and add them to the air fryer during the last 20-30 minutes of cooking. Serve the roast chicken with your favorite sides and enjoy a delicious, crispy, and juicy dinner.
