Preparation Time: 20 minutes
Cooking Time: 40 minutes
Ingredients
For the Koftas:
500g ground chicken
1/2 cup finely chopped onions
2 tablespoons ginger-garlic paste
1/4 cup fresh coriander leaves, finely chopped
1/4 cup fresh mint leaves, finely chopped
1 teaspoon garam masala powder
1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
Salt to taste
4 boiled eggs, peeled and kept aside
For the Curry:
2 tablespoons oil
1 large onion, finely chopped
2 tomatoes, pureed
1/2 cup yogurt, whisked
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon coriander powder
1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
1/2 teaspoon garam masala powder
Salt to taste
Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
Method
- In a mixing bowl, combine ground chicken, chopped onions, ginger-garlic paste, coriander leaves, mint leaves, garam masala powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
- Divide the mixture into equal portions. Take each portion, flatten it on your palm, place a boiled egg in the center, and shape the chicken mixture around the egg, forming a kofta (meatball) with the egg inside. Repeat for all portions.
- Heat oil in a deep pan over medium heat. Gently place the prepared koftas in the hot oil and fry them until they turn golden brown on all sides. Remove the koftas from the pan and set them aside.
- In the same pan, add cumin seeds and let them splutter. Add chopped onions and sauté until they turn translucent.
- Add tomato puree, turmeric powder, coriander powder, red chili powder, and salt. Cook the mixture until the oil starts to separate from the masala, indicating it's well-cooked.
- Lower the heat, add whisked yogurt, and stir continuously to avoid curdling. Cook until the mixture thickens and the oil separates again.
- Add water according to your desired consistency for the curry. Bring it to a gentle boil.
- Carefully place the fried koftas into the simmering curry. Cover the pan and let it cook on low heat for about 10-15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
- Sprinkle garam masala powder over the curry, gently stir, and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.
- Transfer the Chicken Nargisi Kofta Curry to a serving dish. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
- Serve hot with naan, roti, or steamed rice. Enjoy the rich, flavorful Chicken Nargisi Kofta Curry with your loved ones.
