Cooking Time: 20 minutes
Total Time: 50 minutes
Ingredients
For the filling:
1 cup ground chicken
1/2 cup finely chopped almonds
1/4 cup finely chopped onion
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon ginger, grated
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon oyster sauce
1 tablespoon sesame oil
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
2 green onions, finely chopped
2 tablespoons fresh cilantro, chopped
For the dough:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup warm water
For serving:
Soy sauce
Chili garlic sauce
Sliced green onions
Method
Prepare the Filling:
- In a mixing bowl, combine ground chicken, chopped almonds, onion, garlic, ginger, soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, salt, and black pepper.
- Mix well until all the ingredients are evenly incorporated.
- Add the green onions and cilantro to the mixture and stir until combined.
- Set the filling aside.
Make the Dough:
- In a large bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt.
- Gradually add warm water to the flour mixture, mixing with a spoon until it comes together.
- Transfer the dough to a clean surface and knead for about 5 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Shape the dough into a ball and cover it with a damp cloth. Let it rest for 15 minutes.
Roll Out the Dough:
- After resting, divide the dough into small portions and roll each portion into a thin, circular wrapper using a rolling pin.
- Ensure that the edges of the wrapper are thinner than the center to allow for easier folding.
Fill and Fold the Momos:
- Place a tablespoon of the chicken-almond filling in the center of each wrapper.
- Fold the wrapper in half, creating a semi-circle, and press the edges firmly to seal.
- To create pleats, hold one edge of the semi-circle and fold it towards the center, then pinch it with the opposite edge. Repeat this process until the momo is completely sealed.
Steam the Momos:
- Line a steamer basket with parchment paper or cabbage leaves to prevent sticking.
- Arrange the momos in the steamer, leaving some space between them to allow for expansion during cooking.
- Steam the momos over high heat for approximately 15-20 minutes or until the filling is cooked through and the wrappers turn translucent.
Serve and Enjoy:
- Once cooked, carefully remove the momos from the steamer and arrange them on a serving plate.
- Serve hot with soy sauce, chili garlic sauce, and sliced green onions as dipping options.
