Preparation Time: Approximately 15 minutes
Ingredients:
1 shot (approximately 1 ounce) of espresso or 1/4 cup of strong brewed coffee
1 cup of whole milk
1 tablespoon of granulated sugar
1 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract
Whipped cream (optional)
Ground cinnamon or cocoa powder (for garnish)
Equipment:
Espresso machine or coffee maker
Milk frother or steamer
Small saucepan
Measuring spoons and cups
Coffee mug or cappuccino cup
Method
Brew the Espresso or Strong Coffee:
If you have an espresso machine, brew a single shot of espresso. Alternatively, prepare a quarter cup of strong coffee using your preferred coffee maker. Make sure it is concentrated to achieve that robust coffee flavor.
Heat the Milk:
Pour the whole milk into a small saucepan and place it over medium heat. Heat the milk until it starts to steam, but do not let it boil. Steamed milk adds the creaminess to your cappuccino, creating that characteristic velvety texture.
Froth the Milk:
Once the milk is heated, use a milk frother or steamer to froth the milk. This process introduces air into the milk, creating a light and airy foam that's essential for a proper cappuccino. If you don't have a frother, you can achieve similar results by shaking the warm milk vigorously in a sealed jar until frothy.
Add Vanilla and Sugar:
Stir in the granulated sugar and pure vanilla extract into the frothed milk. The vanilla adds a subtle sweetness and a delightful aroma that perfectly complements the boldness of the coffee.
Prepare the Cappuccino:
Pour the freshly brewed espresso or strong coffee into your coffee mug or cappuccino cup. Slowly pour the vanilla-infused frothed milk over the coffee, holding back the foam with a spoon until the cup is nearly full.
Top with Foam and Garnish:
Spoon the remaining foam on top of the cappuccino to create that signature layered effect. For an extra touch of elegance, add a dollop of whipped cream on top. To complete the presentation, sprinkle a pinch of ground cinnamon or cocoa powder over the whipped cream.
