If you're a fan of momos, you know that the right chutney can elevate the entire experience. This Red Hot Momo Chutney is a tangy, spicy, and flavorful dip that pairs perfectly with your favorite steamed or fried momos. Best of all, it can be made in under 10 minutes, using simple ingredients you likely already have at home. Let's dive into how you can whip up this vibrant chutney in no time!
Ingredients for Hot Momo Chutney
6-8 dried red chilies (adjust to heat preference)
2 medium-sized tomatoes (roughly chopped)
1 tablespoon garlic (finely chopped or minced)
1 teaspoon ginger (grated or finely chopped)
1 tablespoon vinegar (or lemon juice)
1 tablespoon sugar (optional, for balance)
Salt to taste
1/4 cup water (or as needed for consistency)
1 tablespoon oil (vegetable or sesame oil)
Method
To make the Red Hot Momo Chutney in less than 10 minutes, start by soaking the dried red chilies in hot water for about 5 minutes to soften them. While the chilies are soaking, chop the tomatoes, garlic, and ginger. Heat oil in a small pan over medium heat, then sauté the garlic and ginger for 1-2 minutes until fragrant. Add the chopped tomatoes to the pan and cook for another 2-3 minutes, allowing them to soften and release their juices.
Once the tomatoes are cooked, drain the soaked chilies and add them to the pan along with the garlic, ginger, and tomatoes. Let the mixture cool slightly, then transfer it to a blender. Add salt, sugar, and vinegar (or lemon juice), and blend the ingredients until smooth, adding water to adjust the consistency as needed.
Taste the chutney and adjust the seasoning if necessary. Once blended, transfer the chutney to a serving bowl, and it's ready to serve alongside your momos. Enjoy the spicy, tangy flavor of this quick and easy chutney!
