Preparation Time:
Making Coconut Burfi is surprisingly quick and effortless. Here's the breakdown of the preparation time:
Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 20 minutes
Cooling Time: 30 minutes
Total Time: 60 minutes
Ingredients
To make approximately 20 pieces of Coconut Burfi, you will need the following ingredients:
2 cups fresh grated coconut (you can also use frozen grated coconut)
1 cup condensed milk
1/2 cup milk
1/4 cup sugar (adjust to taste)
1/2 teaspoon cardamom powder (for a delightful aroma)
A pinch of saffron strands (for a beautiful golden hue)
1 tablespoon ghee (clarified butter)
A handful of chopped nuts (almonds, cashews, or pistachios) for garnishing
Method
- In a non-stick pan, heat the ghee over medium flame.
- Add the grated coconut and sauté it for a few minutes until it turns slightly golden and releases a heavenly coconut aroma.
- Pour in the milk and condensed milk, and mix well.
- Add the sugar and continue cooking on low heat, stirring continuously to prevent sticking.
- As the mixture simmers, it will start to thicken. Keep stirring to avoid burning or uneven cooking.
- Add the cardamom powder and saffron strands, infusing the burfi with delightful flavors and a visually appealing tint.
- Grease a flat plate or a baking dish with ghee.
- Once the mixture thickens and starts to leave the sides of the pan (this should take about 15-20 minutes), quickly transfer it to the greased plate.
- Smooth out the mixture evenly on the plate, about 1/2 inch in thickness.
- Sprinkle the chopped nuts over the top, gently pressing them so they stick to the burfi.
- Let the Coconut Burfi cool and set for about 30 minutes at room temperature.
Serving and Storage:
- Once the burfi has cooled and set, cut it into desired shapes, typically squares or diamond cuts.
- Your delectable Coconut Burfi is now ready to be savored! Serve it to family and friends or indulge in it all by yourself.
- You can store the leftover burfi in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4-5 days. Refrigeration will extend its shelf life.
