Chicken Tikka Skewers are a popular and flavorful dish inspired by Indian cuisine. The dish features marinated chicken pieces, often boneless, that are skewered and grilled or baked until perfectly tender and slightly charred. The marinade typically consists of yogurt, spices like cumin, coriander, turmeric, garam masala, and chili powder, and a touch of lemon juice, which helps tenderize the chicken and infuses it with rich flavors. The skewers are usually served with a side of green chutney, onions, and naan or rice. Perfect as a starter or main dish, Chicken Tikka Skewers offer a smoky, spicy, and tangy profile that delights the taste buds.
Ingredients:
For the Chicken Marinade:
500g boneless chicken (cut into cubes)
1/2 cup plain yogurt
1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon red chili powder (adjust to taste)
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon cumin powder
1 teaspoon garam masala
1 teaspoon coriander powder
Salt to taste
2 tablespoons oil (optional, for extra moisture)
For Grilling:
Skewers (wooden or metal)
Lemon wedges (for garnish)
Fresh cilantro (for garnish)
Instructions:
# Prepare the Marinade:
- In a large bowl, mix together the yogurt, ginger-garlic paste, lemon juice, red chili powder, turmeric powder, cumin powder, garam masala, coriander powder, and salt.
- Add the chicken cubes to the marinade and mix well to coat all the pieces.
- Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 2 hours (or overnight for best results). The longer the chicken marinates, the more flavorful it will be.
# Preheat the Grill or Oven:
- If using a grill, preheat it to medium-high heat.
- If using an oven, preheat it to 200°C (400°F) and line a baking tray with aluminum foil for easy cleanup.
# Skewer the Chicken:
-Thread the marinated chicken pieces onto the skewers. Make sure the pieces are not overcrowded to allow even cooking.
# Grill or Bake the Chicken:
- Grill Method: Place the skewers on the preheated grill and cook for about 12-15 minutes, turning occasionally, until the chicken is cooked through and has a slight char.
- Oven Method: Place the skewers on the prepared baking tray and bake for 20-25 minutes, turning halfway through, until the chicken is golden and cooked through. Optionally, you can broil for the last 2 minutes to get a charred effect.
# Serve:
- Once done, remove the skewers from the grill or oven.
- Garnish with lemon wedges and fresh cilantro.
- Serve the Chicken Tikka Skewers with naan, rice, or a side of green chutney.
