Cheese balls are a popular snack made from a mixture of cheese, herbs, spices, and other ingredients that are shaped into balls and fried until golden brown. They are often served as appetizers or party snacks and can be enjoyed on their own or with a dipping sauce.
Cheese balls can be made with a variety of different cheeses, including cheddar, mozzarella, and cream cheese. They can also be flavored with herbs like parsley, basil, or thyme, and spices like garlic powder, paprika, or cayenne pepper.
Ingredients
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
4 ounces cream cheese, softened
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
2 eggs, beaten
1 cup breadcrumbs
Vegetable oil, for frying
Method
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the shredded cheddar cheese, cream cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are fully combined.
- Roll the cheese mixture into small balls, about 1-2 inches in diameter.
- Place the flour, beaten eggs, and breadcrumbs into three separate bowls.
- Roll each cheese ball in the flour, then dip into the beaten eggs, and finally roll in the breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere the crumbs to the cheese balls.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep frying pan or pot to 350°F.
- Fry the cheese balls in batches for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
- Use a slotted spoon to remove the cheese balls from the oil and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain off any excess oil.
- Serve the cheese balls hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
