Mango Phirni is a delicious Indian dessert made with rice pudding and pureed mangoes. The rice is grounded well and mixed with milk, saffron powder and various ingredients. To cut a long story short, our mango phirni recipe is tasty, clean and guilt-free indulgence. But wait, where did Mango Phirni start? Nobody knows the answer to that but historical records say that the phirni originated sometime during the Mughal Empire era. Some say it was first found in Persia and cultural influences led to its adaption in India and other countries. In India, we love celebrating our poojas and festivities on a sweet note. Mango Phirni is one of those desserts that people love during such occasions. Even top luxury hotels and 5-star restaurants have this on their menu since it's so popular! If you're trying to make mango phirni restaurant-style, you have to first start with the traditional recipe.
Ingredients
White Rice 0.25 cups
Jaggery 0.5 cups
Almond 15 pieces
Green Cardamom 4 pieces
Slim Milk 1000 ml
Raspuri Mango Ripe 1 piece
Water 150 ml
Method
- Wash the rice well and soak it for 30 minutes. Prep: Cut the half mango into dices and for the remaining half, make a puree.
- Once rice is soaked, drain and blend on a pulse. The texture of the grinded rice will be similar to soozi. Do not over blend.
- Slice almonds for garnish. Crush the green cardamom pods. Set aside. Heat the milk with crushed green cardamom in a heavy bottom pan.
- On low flame, add grounded rice in milk and stir to avoid any lumps. Let it simmer on low flame, cook until the rice gets soft and phirni gets set. Turn off the heat and add jaggery and mango puree. mix well.
- Garnish with almonds, chopped mango and raisins. Serve cold.
