Recipe- Healthy For Breakfast Bread Upma

Bread Upma is a quick snack that you can make with leftover bread. This Upma is made by cutting bread into small pieces tempered with basic spices and tossing bread with it. This Upma can be made with or without vegetable as per your preference and liking.

Ingredients

4 slices bread
1/2 cup big onion finely chopped
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp coriander leaves finely chopped
1 tsp lemon juice
10 nos cashews broken
salt to taste

To Temper

1 tbsp oil
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
1/2 tsp urad dal
a small sprig curry leaves
1 no green chilli slitted
1/2 tsp ginger finely chopped

Method

- Take 4 bread slices. I used wheat bread, you can use regular white bread too.

- Chop into small cubes.

- Repeat to finish and set aside.

- Heat 1 tbsp oil – add 1/2 tsp mustard seeds, let it crackle. Then add 1/2 tsp urad dal and few curry leaves.

- Fry until dals turn golden.

- Add 1/2 cup finely chopped onion along with required salt.

- Saute until golden.

- Now fry 6 cashews (broken) until golden.

- Add 1/2 tsp ginger, 1 green chilli and 1/4 tsp turmeric powder.

- Saute for a minute.

- Add cut bread pieces along with 1 tsp lemon juice and 1 tsp coriander leaves.

- Toss well. Sprinkle littl water give a quick mix and switch off.

- Bread Upma ready!
