Recipe- Perfect for Dinner Cauliflower Peas Kurma

Cauliflower peas kurma is a great side dish for chapati or poori. A curry with south Indian spices and coconut base. Goes well with chapati or poori and even mild rice varieties. Breakfast, Lunch or dinner any time of the day.This recipe is in my hand written cookbook, which I had written before my marriage. So I don't know the source of this recipe.

But when I tried the recipe for first time in my initial days of cooking, it turned out really nice.

Ingredients

1 - big cauliflower
1/4 cup - green peas
1/2 - onion, cut lengthwise
1/2 medium sized - tomato, cubed
1/2 tsp - chilli powder
1 generous pinch - turmeric powder
1 tbsp - coriander leaves, chopped finely
2 tbsp - oil
salt

Grind to a paste:

1/4 cup - coconut
1 tsp - fennel
5 - cashews
1 - onion
1 - tomato
1 tbsp - roasted gram dal
4 pods - garlic
2 - green chillies
1/2 inch piece - cinnamon
1 - clove

Method

- Grind all the ingredients for the paste with a little water and keep aside.
- Chop cauliflower into small florets and pressure cook along with peas, salt and turmeric powder - till half done.
- Heat oil in a pan, add onions and fry till golden brown. Then add tomatoes, fry until the raw smell leaves.
- Add chilli powder and turmeric powder and mix well.
- Now add the ground paste and fry till the raw smell leaves and oil separates.
- Add 1/4 cup of water (adjust according to thickness) and allow it to boil for 5 mins.
- Now add cauliflower and peas, mix well. Add water if required and allow the kurma to boil 3 - 5 mins.
- Garnish with coriander leaves and switch off.
