Preparation Time: approximately 30 minutes.
Ingredients
1 cup chana dal (split Bengal gram), soaked for 2-3 hours
2 medium-sized potatoes, boiled and mashed
1 onion, finely chopped
2 green chilies, finely chopped
2 tablespoons finely chopped coriander leaves
1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
1 teaspoon chaat masala
1 teaspoon roasted cumin powder
1 teaspoon red chili powder
1 teaspoon garam masala
Salt to taste
Oil for shallow frying
Method
- Drain the soaked chana dal and transfer it to a blender or food processor. Pulse it a few times until you get a coarse texture.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the coarsely ground chana dal, mashed potatoes, chopped onions, green chilies, ginger-garlic paste, coriander leaves, chaat masala, roasted cumin powder, red chili powder, garam masala, and salt. Mix well to combine all the ingredients.
- Take a small portion of the mixture and shape it into a round or oval-shaped kabab. Repeat the process with the remaining mixture.
- Heat oil in a non-stick pan or tawa over medium heat.
- Place the shaped kababs on the heated pan and cook them until golden brown and crisp on both sides. You can also brush the kababs with a little oil for a crispier texture.
- Once cooked, remove the kababs from the pan and place them on a kitchen towel to absorb any excess oil.
- Serve the Vegetarian Chana Shammi Kababs hot with mint chutney, tamarind chutney, or any dipping sauce of your choice.
- Enjoy the delicious and nutritious Chana Shammi Kababs as an appetizer or snack.
