Are there tiny black bugs in your house? Perhaps you’ve found a few white bugs clinging to an indoor plant? During the colder months, some bugs try to escape by taking refuge inside your home. While we expect bugs to be outdoors, most people don’t want to share their house with bugs.
There are ways to get rid of common household bugs without calling pest control. Here are six easy steps to de-bug your home.
1. Peppermint Oil
Besides making your house smell wonderful, mint plants and peppermint oil naturally repel ants, spiders, mosquitoes and even mice. Mix 10-15 drops of peppermint essential oil in 8 oz of water then shake and spray the mixture in areas around doorways, vents and windows.
2. Neem Oil
A product of the Neem tree, this oil kills over 200 species of insects but won’t hurt humans or wildlife. Spray neem oil on indoor plants to help control aphids, thrips, and white flies.
3. Lavender
The wonderful scent from lavender plants repels moths, fleas, flies and mosquitoes. Place sachets of dried lavender in closets or make it part of your cleaning regiment to spray a mixture of 5-10 drops of lavender essential oil in 8oz of water around your home to keep bugs away.
4. Flypaper and Insect Traps
For moths, flies and centipedes, try using poison-free sticky traps that lure the insect in through scent and color that then trap the insects.
