6 Ways To Stop Thinking About Your Ex For Good

You and your ex recently broke up. Maybe you broke up with them, or they broke up with you. Either way, you still can’t get them out of your mind. It’s a tough spot to wonder how to stop thinking about your ex. Honestly, no one wants to have their ex stuck in their head.
But we can’t help it if we still have feelings for them. It doesn’t matter who broke up with who, a breakup will always hurt like a bitch. So you can’t help but think of them, even if your mind knows what your heart doesn’t accept yet.
Your relationship meant a lot to you, so it’s normal that you can’t get them out of your head. It seems that no matter how hard you try, you keep thinking of your ex, even when your relationship is long gone and over.
# Don’t text them
Oh, we know you want to send them a text to test the waters, but don’t do it. If you’re still texting with your ex, even in a friendly way, you won’t be able to get over them. This can become compulsive. Delete their number from your phone, so you won’t be able to text them first.
The next step, and it will be a hard one, is to block their number.
If you’re serious about learning how to stop thinking about your ex, stop texting them. This won’t do you any good; we assure you that. Delete their number, and don’t ever look back!
# Follow the no contact rule
But, seriously. This is something you really need to follow. If you want to move on, you cannot contact them for at least 30 days. That’s right. You need one month to process your feelings and breathe. If you’re still talking to them, you won’t be able to move on.
You might’ve heard this popular rule as a tactic to get your ex back, but you’re not doing this to get them back. You’re doing it to stop thinking of them altogether. We repeat, you’re not doing this to get them back!
The moment you go a month without talking to them, you’ll realize you can actually live your life even without them in it. How great is that?
# No stalking on social media
It’s so easy to go on your phone and look up your ex. You can follow their every move and see who they’re with at any moment. But that’s not what you want to do. If anything, this will only keep you from moving on. Delete or mute them from your social media so you can get them off of your mind.
Did you know you tend to dream of someone if you keep stalking them? So if you want to help yourself and stop thinking about them or even dreaming of them every night, stop stalking their socials. Mute their account or even block them if you have to.
# Accept the breakup
The worst thing you can do is be hopeful of getting back together. Right now, if you want to process the breakup and move on, accept what happened. You are not going to get back together, and you need to move on. By accepting what happened, you’ll feel a little relief, and of course, sadness.
But that’s the process. You will only learn how to stop thinking about your ex if you accept the breakup as it is. If you keep thinking you want to get back together and find any shred of hope, they will never leave your thoughts.
We know it’s hard, but you must do this for yourself.
# Learn from the relationship
What went wrong in your relationship? What were your strengths and weaknesses? And what were your ex’s strengths and weaknesses? Looking at your relationship through this lens can help you understand what happened and prepare you for future relationships.
It’s important you learn from the relationship to stop being consumed by thoughts of your ex. It’s the only way you can move forward and accept why the breakup had to occur, especially if they dumped you. But if you were the one to break up, hold on to all the reasons why you had to end it as well.
# Spend time with your friends and family
You have an amazing group of people around you who love and support you. Why don’t you focus on spending your time and investing in those relationships? Now is the time. You need to be reminded that people still love you and respect you. Those people are the closest ones around you.
So if you want to learn how to stop thinking about your ex, spend time around your loved ones. They’ll remind you that you have so much love in your life and your ex is just one person you lost.
