10 Major Signs You Have Trust Issues In Your Relationship

Trust issues are profound and cannot simply be explained away or resolved through sheer willpower. They often stem from patterns of behavior, manipulation, and our past experiences. While overcoming these issues isn't easy, it is possible to learn how to date despite them.
When you've been lied to, it not only erodes your trust in that person but also undermines your confidence in yourself. This can make it difficult to know whom to trust, leading you to question your own judgment. The fear of investing time and energy into dating becomes heightened because you're aware of how things might go wrong.
This is a common struggle for many, and it often results in people remaining single and uninterested in dating for extended periods due to their trust issues.
# You Push Them Away
When you start dating someone, even if you really like them, you eventually begin to distance yourself. You stop asking them out or accepting dates as frequently as before. Your texts become less frequent, and you generally reduce your effort in the relationship. This behavior can lead the other person to wonder if you’re ghosting them.
# You Don’t Communicate Well
Your tendency to push them away creates confusion. They believed everything was going well and are left wondering what went wrong. Instead of being upfront about your trust issues and feelings, you withdraw, leaving them unaware that your behavior stems from these issues.
# Emotional Mood Swings About the Relationship
Your feelings about the relationship can swing dramatically. One day you might feel deeply in love, and the next, anxious and overwhelmed. This inconsistency can confuse your partner, as your emotions about the relationship seem erratic.
# You Snoop
Past experiences of being cheated on may drive you to engage in “detective work.” You might check their phone, social media accounts, or even their personal belongings for any signs that confirm your distrust, looking for evidence of wrongdoing.
# You Bend Over Backwards for Them and Expect the Same
Your lack of trust leads you to give excessively, hoping this will inspire loyalty. You expect your partner to reciprocate this effort, and when they don’t, it increases your anxiety and reinforces your belief that they are untrustworthy.
# You Always Assume the Worst
You tend to expect that new partners will dislike you, ghost you, or use you. Your mind gravitates towards worst-case scenarios as a way of preparing for disappointment, based on your distrust in others.
# You Panic When You Can’t Reach Them
If they don’t respond to your texts or calls immediately, you panic, imagining all sorts of scenarios about what they are doing or who they are with. Your mind creates stories of betrayal, even though they are likely untrue.
# You Even Panic When You’re Not With Them
When they are at work or with family, you feel a loss of control and panic because you can’t monitor their actions. Their absence triggers anxiety, as you can't be sure they’re not doing anything wrong.
# Your Mind Is Always in Fight or Flight Mode
You constantly assess whether to defend yourself or flee from a situation. Your lack of trust keeps your mind in a perpetual state of battle, always preparing to protect yourself.
# You Overthink Even the Smallest Things
Trust issues cause you to overanalyze everything, even minor details. This excessive overthinking is driven by your lack of trust, unlike those who don't struggle with trusting others.
