Bakrid 2018- Muslims are Cutting Cake Instead of Goats in Lucknow

People across India are gearing up for Bakrid festival to be celebrated on Wednesday in India.

It is a feast of sacrifice of animals for Bakrid.

People sacrifice sheep and goats on this day but not all are up for it.

Folks in Lucknow are preparing to celebrate a Peta-friendly Bakrid by cutting cakes with images of goats.

A buyer at a bakery appealed to people to celebrate the festival by cutting a cake instead.

It is not the first time that somebody has cut a cake as a way of sacrifice during Bakrid. In 2016, a Muslim man in Lucknow did it.

He wanted to spread the message against the killing of animals on Bakrid. The novel 'qurbaani' was much talked about as people debated if it was the right thing to do on Bakrid.

In another incident, an RSS-affiliated outfit in Uttar Pradesh told the Muslim community to end the practice of sacrificing animals on Bakrid. In 2017, the outfit told people to cut a cake, not animals on the festival.
