LIONEL MESSI set another record in his glittering career when he opened the scoring against Nigeria - it was the 100th goal of World Cup 2018.

And the Barcelona star's goal was enough to bring the century up at Russia 2018, after just 12 days of competition.

He joined an elite ban of players to bring up the 100 - Neymar struck the century goal four years ago in Brazil and Andres Iniesta made it triple figures in 2010.

Messi's goal in St Petersburg also continued an amazing streak of record setting by his club Barcelona.

For it now means that in the last three World Cups, it has been a Barcelona player who scored that 100th goal.
