Ganesh Chaturthi 2018: Mumbai Bids Adieu To More Than 45,000 Ganeshas Idols

More than 45,000 Ganesha idols were immersed on the fifth day of Ganesh Chaturthi across the city. Mumbaikars bade goodbyes to a total of 45,418 Ganpati idols on Monday. The figures are as of 9 pm. According to the civic body officials, more idols are being diverted into artificial ponds this year.
“As many as 8,209 idols were immersed in man-made ponds this year. People who could not buy eco-friendly idols are choosing environmental measures to balance it off. We are expecting the number to cross 10,000 this time around,” said a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) official from disaster management unit. Of those 8,209 idols, 7,585 were household Ganpatis while 102 were of sarvajanik mandals while remaining 522 idols were Gauri idols. Around 37,209 people opted for natural water bodies across Mumbai. Of these, 29,624 idols are of household Ganpatis while 570 are of sarvajanik mandals. The remainder 2,996 idols immersed in the sea were Gauri visarjan.
