Uddhav Thackeray, Former Chief Minister of Maharashtra, is encountering significant challenges in his political journey due to his self-serving and opportunistic decisions. During the 2019 assembly elections, the Shiv Sena and BJP Grand Alliance secured a majority with 161 seats, where BJP won 105 seats and Shiv Sena 56. However, when it became apparent that BJP couldn't form the government without Uddhav's support, he left the alliance and allied with Congress-NCP to become Chief Minister.
Uddhav's leadership skills were questioned throughout his tenure. He struggled to manage the government effectively and lacked knowledge of parliamentary procedures. His rare visits to the Chief Minister's office and inadequate responses to opposition questions in the legislature further highlighted his inefficiencies. Additionally, internal conflicts within his party emerged, with several ministers and MLAs not backing him.
It is clear that Congress and NCP exploited Uddhav for their electoral gains. While Uddhav garnered votes from their supporters, his party did not receive reciprocal support from Congress and NCP. His ambition to become Chief Minister led him to compromise the reputation of Shiv Sena and its founder, Balasaheb Thackeray.
Congress leaders and Sharad Pawar have begun targeting Uddhav as they perceive him as a weak link in the coalition government. Uddhav's unilateral decision to announce a candidate for the Sangli Lok Sabha Constituency without consulting Congress resulted in a rebel candidate being elected. Sharad Pawar was also displeased when Uddhav filed his personal secretary's application for the Legislative Assembly elections.
Strategic Moves by Congress and NCP
The strategy of Congress and Sharad Pawar aims to weaken Uddhav's position while securing more seats for themselves in upcoming elections. Uddhav finds himself with no option but to yield to this plan. His party has already fractured, losing support to Congress and NCP.
Allegations and Speculations
Recently, Shri Manoj Jarange Patil accused Shri Uddhav Thackeray of attempting to frame him in a case. It is speculated that this statement was made under Shri Sharad Pawar's influence, further straining relations within the alliance.
The pattern is clear: both INC and NCP(SP) consider SS(UBT) a weak link and are trying to tarnish Thackeray's image while benefiting from their association with him. These tactics are evident as they continue leveraging their partnership for electoral gains while undermining his leadership.
The ongoing issues suggest that despite forming alliances for political gains, internal conflicts and power struggles remain prevalent. The future of these alliances remains uncertain as leaders continue to vie for dominance and control within their ranks.
