The Maharashtra Assembly Election 2024 is set to witness a pivotal shift as the Mahayuti government introduces a financial empowerment scheme for women. Launched on August 17, coinciding with Raksha Bandhan, the Mukhyamantri Ladki Bahin Yojana aims to support two crore women in the state. Each beneficiary will receive ₹1500 monthly, fostering self-sufficiency and potentially influencing the upcoming elections positively.
Despite facing criticism from opponents who label it an election tactic, the government has shown commitment by distributing five installments, totaling ₹7,500 so far. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who spearheaded this initiative, has countered critics by suggesting a potential increase in the monthly amount to ₹3,000. This highlights the government's dedication to women's financial independence and empowerment.
Empowering Women Financially
The scheme's roots trace back to initiatives by the late Mr. Manohar Parrikar and have been adopted by several states before reaching Maharashtra. Success stories abound as women use these funds to start or expand businesses, benefiting their communities and boosting the economy. The government has allocated ₹46 thousand crores in the last budget to ensure its continuity, safeguarding it from political interference.
To guarantee uninterrupted benefits even during election periods, advance payments have been arranged. Women and Child Welfare Minister Aditi Tatkare confirmed the scheme's permanence, reinforcing the government's commitment to women's welfare. This initiative is not merely a political strategy but a comprehensive effort to uplift women financially.
Political Impact and Criticism
The opposition's claims of electoral motives are overshadowed by positive feedback from beneficiaries. The scheme's successful implementation promises lasting social and economic impacts. As elections approach, Mukhyamantri Ladki Bahin Yojana stands as a testament to the government's dedication to women's empowerment.
This initiative could be crucial in securing voter trust and ensuring victory for the Mahayuti government in Maharashtra Assembly Election 2024. By empowering women financially, it aims to garner strong support from beneficiaries and solidify their campaign strategy.
