Vande Bharat Express reaches Varanasi 1 hour 25 minutes late on day one

Touted as India’s first semi-high speed train, Vande Bharat Express, which began its first commercial run on Sunday arrived in Varanasi an hour and 25 minutes behind schedule.

According to Hindustan Times, Vande Bharat Express arrived in Varanasi an hour and 25 minutes behind schedule because of fog. Vande Bharat Express was scheduled to arrive at 2 pm on Sunday at Varanasi but instead it reached at 3.25 pm. The train was delayed somewhere between New Delhi and Kanpur, said the report.

The Vande Bharat Express began its first commercial run on Sunday, a day after it broke down on its way to Delhi from Varanasi. “Vande Bharat Express left Delhi for Varanasi today morning on its first commercial run. Tickets sold out for the next two weeks already. Get yours today!” tweeted Railway Minister Piyush Goyal.

It has 16 coaches (2 executive chair car and 14 chair car) and will run on all days except Monday and Thursday. All coaches of the train are equipped with automatic doors, GPS based audio-visual passenger information system, onboard hotspot Wi-Fi for entertainment purposes, and bio-vacuum toilets. The fully air-conditioned train will move with all gates closed. Every coach has a pantry with the facility to serve hot meals, hot and cold beverages. Adding up the green footprints, this fully “Make in India” train has regenerative braking system in the coaches which can save up to 30 percent of electrical energy.
