Vice President Elections To Be Held On August 5

The Election Commission on Thursday announced that polls for the post of Vice President will be held on August 5.
The incumbent, Hamid Ansari, is due to retire on August 10.
According to the schedule announced by Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi, the notification for the vice-presidential polls will be issued on July 4. Nominations can be filed until July 18, followed by their scrutiny on July 19. Candidatures can be withdrawn till July 21.
Polling to elect the new Vice-President will be held on August 5 between 10 am and 5 pm. The results will be declared on the same day. The electoral college for the post of Vice-President comprises 790 MPs of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.
All 545 members of the Lok Sabha, including 2 nominated members, as well as 245 members of the Rajya Sabha, including 12 nominated members, will vote in the polls.
